Overview
The bulk picking method in the system will send a batch of picks for multiple orders to a mobile picking user & direct them to pick items sorted in location order to be scanned and placed in a container or trolley in bulk.
Thereby reducing double-stepping and maximizing picker efficiency by only visiting one location for multiple orders at the same time.
This method of picking will not produce any individual despatch note paperwork until the point of packing / despatch for each customer.
Large Multi-Line Orders!
We do not recommend using this method for operations where the orders consist of a large number of individual SKU lines, as the packers / dispatcher's will experience difficulty in grouping the items together from the bulk trolley / container of stock picked.
This method works best for single-line operations or orders up to 2/3 lines of stock.
There are two sub methods:
- Bulk
This requires you to print a summary pick list with a batch ID identifier barcode to print and keep with the trolley of goods.
When the batch is fully picked - the packer will then scan the batch ID barcode from the printed summary pick list to commence packing the orders. - Bulk Paperless
This does not require a summary pick list to be printed & instead requires you to have uniquely barcoded totes or trolleys to pick the items into.
When the batch is fully picked - the packer will then scan the tote or trolley barcode to commence packing the orders.
Create Bulk Batch Pick & Assign to Mobile User
To create a bulk picking batch - navigate to Picking > Manage Batches > Create New Batch
Choose the warehouse / client / courier / product filters as normal required.
For bulk method we would recommend to select the single line filter:
Default Settings
You can make two default setting changes depending on how you most uses mobile batches:
- Change your default batch landing tab to assign to mobile users by going to Settings > User Settings > Picking Defaults > Batch page default tab
- Change your mobile batch type default setting if you regularly use one type of mobile batch over others -Settings > User Settings > Mobile Defaults or see guide Setting Default Mobile Batch Type
Now when the batch has been created, navigate to the Mobile Tab & make sure the picking type is correct (bulk or bulk paperless) and choose the user you want to assign the batch to (you can assign to a specific picker or assign to an open "All" pool)
For bulk paperless - the batch is now ready to be picked on the device - when you select the device on the app, it will ask you to scan the tote / trolley barcode to start the pick.
For bulk method - finally print the pick list to identify the batch once picked:
keep bulk pick-list with picked goods!
The circled barcode below will identify the batch of stock the picker has picked, when the goods are handed over to despatch - the packer / despatcher will need this document!
Picking a Bulk Batch on the App
Navigate to Batch Picking:
Select the batch you want to pick - anything with a green square has been allocated to an open "All" pool - the first user to select the batch will get automatically assigned:
For bulk paperless you will be asked to scan the tote / trolley barcode first before it will accept product scans;
For bulk method you can simple start scanning the products and will not get the tote scan prompt.
Now just scan all products until the app advises the batch is complete:
The batch is now ready for packing / despatching
Packing / Despatching Items that have been Bulk Picked
Once the goods have been successfully scanned & picked on the app - to start the packing / despatch process for the items, at a pack station navigate to Picking > Batch Picking
For bulk method - now scan the barcode ID from the top right of the bulk batch pick-list previously printed
For bulk paperless method - now scan the tote / trolley barcode - you'll need to have the "search using tote barcode" option toggled to on.
Search using tote automatically
If you want to automatically scan by tote barcode for every batch - then you can set this by navigating to Settings > User Settings > Picking Defaults > Scan Batch > Default Search By Tote Number
The system will now ask you to scan barcodes for the stock picked in the trolley - where multiple qtys of the same product has been picked - the system will find the oldest order first that needs despatching.
Where an order contains more than one SKU line - the system will show you the additional items that need to be scanned.
In our example below, i need to find & scan 1 x A1 Test shirt & 1 x Coffee in the bulk trolley to complete the order;
Printing Courier Label & Despatch Note / Invoice
